Art Theft (We're all tired of it)

EDIT: I am reposting my original post from Pillowfort. If you read it there, you can ignore.

There has been some discussion about Naturalshocks disappearance on both Tumblr and Deviantart. My understanding (though not verified) is they got fed up with their art being stolen and deleted everything. I have come across at least one person who claimed the art as theirs. It was so obvious it was Naturalshocks work though, and they had also claimed other artists works as theirs too. Their excuse was that they 'edited' the work, so now it was their work.

As an editor, I can assure you that changing a piece of art, a photograph, or especially a story to make it more aesthetically pleasing is just an edit. You still didn't create it, and you don't deserve to put your name or watermark on it. (This is a particular pet peeve of mine. There are several well-known people out there who edit professional photographs and put their watermark on them because they 'edited' them. You know who you are.)

Frankly, I'm surprised that more artists don't flee from the internet. They choose to share their lives with us, and we should (at the very least) be grateful to them for that.

Another day, another fifty cents...

So I signed up for Pillowfort today. They will send me a key to sign in by next Friday. In a fit of seasonal cheer, I paid for two memberships. If there is anyone out there who REALLY needs a membership and cannot swing the $5.00 cost, let me know and I'll get you the extra key when I receive it. I've been there (am still there, to be honest) and someone from the fandom treated me with a kindness I'll never forget. I am trying to pay it forward a little bit.

I've lurked a couple of pages there (anotherwellkeptsecret and mojoflower - I'm looking at you!) and liked what I saw. Like Lockedinjohnlock said in their post earlier, we need to be able to like things here to acknowledge we read a post. I'm not chatty enough to comment on everything I read! :) Pillowfort will allow us to do that again.

Over on Tumblr today I scrolled through my last penis Friday there. The snark was strong there. I was highly amused. (If you didn't see Mojoflower's last penis Friday, you're missing something glorious. She is a great wit and I'm glad she is here and at Pillowfort.)

And one last tip of the hat. Alexxphoenix42 has started posting their rec lists here, and I couldn't be happier. I reblogged every list posted by them on Tumblr, and I'm glad I'll be able to still find little nuggets of fiction I might have missed otherwise.

Slow going

I have been playing around with this format for most of the day today, and am still having a hard go of it. Finding communities to participate in and people to subscribe to are frustratingly time intensive. I keep getting error pages which I only hope is because of all the new members joining the site.

I am excited at the folks I have found, and the posting that is already happening here. I feel as though I'll have to be more chatty just to keep in the loop (and that's not necessarily a bad thing). Hopefully, things will calm down in the near future and we can all continue as we were before.

As we begin another weekend, I wish you all a pleasant and restful few days.

Welcome to my journal!

I am Michele, and you may know me as mrb488 at Tumblr. I, like many of you, was blindsided by Tumblr's decision to no longer allow NSFW art on their platform as of December 17. I joined Dreamwidth last June but had a hard time figuring out how to use it, and there didn't seem to be any hurry to work it out. Now, I am not old, but in internet terms, I'm ancient and figuring some of these things out makes my brain hurt.

As a rabid Johnlocker, I need my art! I am hoping I can continue to get my fix here and maybe Pillowfort when it gets out of testing. I will still stumble around Tumblr, but I won't be on as much since it sounds like most of the folks I follow are abandoning ship.

I am, as a rule, not a poster of original material. I like to love and reblog others posts to spread the excellence around. If you are an artist of Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Who, Avengers or most any other fandom, I will share the hell out of your work (always linking back to you specifically), and praise your talents to the world.

As this is a whole new venture for me, I may share more of my personal thoughts and ideas here. In the meantime, allow me to be your 'conductor of light'.
